why should we care about political sex scandals?

are political sex scandals a public issue?
im writing a school paper about this and i could really use your opinion on this.

Because the hypocrite repubs with "family values" need to be pointed out and disgraced.

EDIT:
Yes, like John Edwards as well. Last time I checked, he wasn't in office, nor running for anything. He knew that he was done once that scandal came out. As for repubs such as Sanford who was using tax money for his mistress slut in Argentina, he does not think he should step down even though his fellow repubs want him to. Why? What a disgrace. Not only an adulterer hypocrite, but continuing to bring shame in his party. That is pretty selfish as well.
